“There are two ways of altering functions in the body: one is to add particular molecules to the system, and the other is to add the electromagnetic signature of those molecules. The energy fields projected from the hands of bodyworkers are in the range of intensity and frequency that can influence regulatory processes within the body of another person.” - Candice Pert, Molecules of Motion
Energy therapists are a compassionate lot, motivated by a strong desire to alleviate suffering and an intelligence and commitment to work in a mindful and conscious manner. We now know that compassion, as an aspect of love, is a form of energy and energy can be measured. In studying reputable healers for over ten years, Robert C. Beck discovered a common denominator. Beck found that, “During the healing moments their (the healers) brain waves became phase and frequency synchronized with the earth’s geoelectric micropulsations.” [1] In other words, the healer’s rhythm and the earth’s rhythm become synchronized or “entrained”.
Entrainment is when two pulses or rhythms of close to the same frequency become synchronized and identical in rate. The next time you’re relaxing on a park bench or lying in the grass looking at the sky, notice how tranquil and calm you become. The earth’s energy field is a powerful healer and we experience entrainment when our heart and breathing rates are in sync with the earth’s energy pulsations, producing a feeling of overall well-being and peace.
It is speculated that perhaps the healing power of the projected fields emanating from energy therapists’ hands lies in their power to entrain similar coherent rhythms in the tissues of their clients. The vibrations emanating from their hands trigger nerve receptors in the patient’s body. These receptors send messages throughout the ECM (extracellular matrix continuum) alerting the body’s defense and repair mechanisms that supportive energy is present to restore balance.
Whether a energy therapist is a natural born healer or has awakened his or her natural healing abilities through studying a certain discipline, all entrain with the earth’s field, entering into an expanded state of awareness. Once in this state the practitioner begins working with the client - the assessment stage. Using high sense perception (HSP) to “see” a client’s bio-energy system and assess what is occurring energetically, the practitioner is receptive to the subtle energy flows within a client’s system and the information it provides. Energy therapists use different mediums to see the client’s imbalance including the eyes, hands, voice and intuition as they are working on the client—very often it will be a combination depending on their training and natural proclivity. While everyone’s energy field is different just as fingerprints are different, there is a common denominator among energy fields: when a person is happy, healthy and well, in general, a bio-energy system reflects a cocoon like envelope surrounding the body. Energy therapists commonly describe this cocoon as soft, smooth, strong, and symmetrical. It “breathes” and has “fluid motion”, expanding and contracting, like gentle waves, and has an uplifting quality. Anything outside of this is observed as a “compromise “ or “imbalance” in the energy field.
After the assessment comes the actual intervention that will help support the natural healing abilities of the body. In an expanded state of awareness, the practitioner is now, through entraining, a conduit for the universal life force energy. Called by many names in various cultures over centuries, chi, ki, prana, illiaster, compassion, kindness, this energy is readily available for the benefit of the client and delivered through the practitioner’s caring hands. Using their hands, a practitioner will work with a client’s energy system. Sometimes this work involves passive hand positions and at other times it involves active hand movements. There will be moments when the practitioner’s hands are lightly touching the client and other moments when they will be hovering or skimming above the body.
This wonderful, supportive energy that pulses from the healers hands entrains the body (physical, emotional, and mental) to gradually and gently return to its naturally balanced state. Staying in this natural state at this time on the planet is not easy. Energy practitioners understand this and encourage their clients to make regular appointments—regular sessions encourage the body to attune to its natural balance and maintain this state for longer and longer periods. Most long-term clients report that this has a profoundly positive impact on all aspects of their lives. Health is indeed wealth. Be Well!
